In honor of Black History Month, the Urban League of Essex County Young Professionals is hosting "Celebrating African American Hair & Culture" Feb. 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  at 513 Central Avenue
in Newark.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate African American hair and culture and  discuss policy, dance, network, and celebrate Black beauty.

In December 2019, New Jersey became the third state to pass a CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Naturals) Act, following California and New York City earlier in the year. The bill protects the rights of those who choose to wear their hair in natural hairstyles such as Afros, braids, twists, and locs, hairstyles commonly worn by people of African descent in the workplace and schools.

The conference will touch on themes of public policy, public health, diversity, social justice, advocacy forum.

This event is sponsored by the Urban League of Essex County Young Professionals volunteers and all proceeds will benefit the Urban League of Essex County.
