Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Newark is hosting the event "Unmasking Domestic Violence in the African-American Church" on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will include a breakfast discussing aspects of the issue of domestic violence.

Speakers for the event include Rev. Dr. Dana Christmas and Min. Selina Carter of Mount Calvary, founder and executive director of S.O.F.I.A., Cynthia Walker and Rev. Barry Miller of the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

"It is our charge to arm both the leaders and laity of the church with the truth about domestic violence so we can eradicate D.V. through advocacy and education with the purpose to save lives," the church said.

Mount Calvary Baptist Church is led by Dr. Ralph M. Branch and is located at 231-215 Seymour Avenue in Newark.  RSVP for the event on Facebook or call (973) 242-5344 for more information.
